Grand Rapids, Michigan (AFP) - A gunman killed seven people including two children in two homes in western Michigan onThursday and then immediately wanted by the police before takingthree hostages, authorities said.
The suspect, whose name was Rodrick Dantzler, one of the hostages were freed after police surrounded a house in the city ofGrand Rapids where he was hiding.
He freed one of the hostages that he was resistant. There was a53-year-old woman who lived in the house who were released,"said Grand Rapids Police Commander Kevin Belk.
"We expect to continue to negotiate with him," he said, "and hegave up."
Previously there were an estimated two adult hostages, a man anda woman, but a more mature woman hiding in the house andfound, said Belk.
The conflict that followed found five bodies of adults and twochildren in two locations etrpisah in the city, triggering a chase thatmelibtakan police helicopters, the representatives of the statepolice and local police.
Dantzler caught in a police car shortly after the bodies were foundand began a chase in downtown Grand Rapids, said policespokesman Sgt Jon Wu biiara.
Danzler shoot the police several times in the chase and policereturned fire with fire. Two people who were at the site of injury in the pursuit.
Investigators do not know the motive for the killings but is thoughtthe suspect had a relationship with at least one in each location, said Belk as reported by Reuters.
